From Russis With Love
It’s considered the best James Bond movie ever filmed by many authorities. Agent 007 is after a Russian coding device which is known as Lektor. Bond has to find this device before the demonic organization Spectre gets their hands on it. Through the quest, Bond finds himself in Istanbul and Spectre agents are after him.
The movie which caused troubles to Turkey for many years tells the story of a man who ended up in Turkish prisons. From the times it’s been filmed, Midnight Express faced intense critism in Turkey. By telling the Turkish legal system, Turkish prisons and Turkish Police Force’s torture the movie exulcerated both actors, director and the Turkey itself. Movie filmed in “Bakırkoy Ruh ve Sinir Hastaliklari Hastanesi” and “Sagmalcılar Cezaevi”.
A second James Bond movie. While, retired Bond (Pierce Brosnan) fixes the situation about oil pipeline, he also saves İstanbul from a huge nuclear disaster. Movie’s scenes filmed in “Kız Kulesi”, “Dolmabahçe Sarayı” and the shores of “Sarayburnu” are spectacular. They provide in-depth images from Bosphorus. Last but not least, there are one French, one American, two beautiful actresses performing in the movie.
An international robbery gang plans to steal a dagger from Topkapi Palace. Thus the cat and mouse game starts between the gang and Turkish Intelligence. İn the movie which Director J. Dussin played a Turkish cop, co-starring Peter Ustinov earned a Oscar with his act. There is another important detail to mention is that exterior shootings of the movie took place entirely in İstanbul.
Owner of the legendary quote “I like my whiskey aged, my women young.” Errol Flynn, plays the role of a suspected diamond robber who searches the true love. Errol Flynn’s masterpiece which he blended in İstanbul’s texture with his dear friend Nat King Cole I worth watching.
Words are not enough for this movie’s cast. “Legendary” movie’s opening scene takes place at “Sirkeci Train Station” and “Pera Palas Hotel”. In the movie which is adapted from Agatha Christie’s novel, charismatic detective Hercul Poirot tries to solve a murder took place in a train travelling from Istanbul to Paris.
Interpol agent Salinger and Manhattan district attorney Whitman attempts to expose a high-profile financial institution’s role in an international arms dealing ring. The movie takes place in Newyork, Berlin and Milano, and then finally in Istanbul. You can see “Suleymaniye Mosque” and “Basilica Cistern” on the movie’s poster.
Several locations indicated as Iran in the movie infact are locations in İstanbul. The Embassy building scene filmed in “Bakirkoy Zuhuratbaba” neighbourhood. If you ever visited Istanbul, you can easily figure out that movie actually took place in Istanbul, not Iran.
Bryan Mills, the retired CIA agent, stopped at nothing to save his daughter Kim from Albanian kidnappers. The father of one of the kidnappers has sworn revenge and takes Bryan and his wife hostage during their family vacation in Istanbul.
